[Anti] Evolution Thought Experiment
What is that one thing that can convince you into believing that evolution is a made-up concept?

Well, the wording on this question is tricky, albeit perhaps unintentionally. What would make me believe it’s a “made up concept?” Nothing. “Made up” implies deceit…that all these scientists (me included) have somehow come together to fool people. I can assure you this is not the case.
If not deceit, it then implies stupidity on the part of the scientists. While I may frequently be a bit stupid, I also assure you this is not the case for the majority of the scientific world.
That said, I do like a good philosophical thought exercise. So here we go…
What would convince me evolution is an incorrect theory?
That’s tough, since both the observed evidence and the entirety of science all agree that it is not. However, there would certainly be exceptions - if I really think about it.
- We discover we are part of a simulation. If we are in the matrix, or some other advanced simulation, then evolution did not occur. However, neither did rocks, streams, you, me, or yesterdays weather. This discovery would certainly lead me to a re-evaluation of all things.
- If God His/Her/Themselves came down and told me so - directly, face-to-face. Of course, this would be contingent upon a number of CAT scans/MRIs and psychiatric evaluations - as well as third party objectifiable evidence - since my studies in neuroscience have made it all too clear that “seeing (alone) is not believing.”
It would also lead to a series of potentially soul-damning questions for God such as “Why plant all the false evidence then? And, seriously, WTF?” - If aliens landed, with definitive evidence they seeded the earth. However, depending on when that happened and the methods used - that may or may not have any impact on the facts of evolution.
- You were able to definitively prove that every aspect of every branch of science if utterly false. I don’t mean just those portions which support the theories that explain the observed evidence for evolution - but every single thing. Water is not wet, fire is not hot, genetics don’t exist, a dropped ball flies up, acid and bases do not react, 2+2=5 … etc.
This would however lead to a similar series of questions, psychological reviews, and CAT scans just as 1 and 2 did.
